The sagittal suture runs longitudinally along the crest of the head from the |frontal bone| to the occipital. This suture joins the two |parietal bones| in the middle of the cranial vault. The sagittal suture intersects the |coronal suture| perpendicularly, and the |lambdoid suture| in a tripartite manner. This latter intersection resembles the Greek letter "lambda," giving the intersection it's name (lambda) and the intersected suture as well (lambdoid).
